After overpaying for too many stupid movies, I was disenchanted with the movie scene altogether and decided not to go for a while. One day my friend invited me to see the new movie Juno. The previews looked funny and so I thought I might enjoy it, and if anything, I’d at least enjoy spending time with my good friend. Not too soon after the movie started, I was struck by the intelligent humor and the melancholy music. Needless to say, I loved the movie and was grateful to my friend for dragging me out and showing me a good time.
The Music From Juno stuck with me for days and about 3 weeks later I went out in search of the Juno Soundtrack . I was thrilled to find such diversity on the soundtrack. Everything from old time favorites Sonic Youth and Buddy Holly down to the charming and infectious “All I Want Is You” by Barry Louis Polisar. With it being such a well rounded soundtrack I just knew that I had to have it. I thought that I should just go ahead and give myself an early birthday present.
So the next time I saw it at the store I picked up a copy for me and one for my friend as well. I have always been a fan of Kimya Dawson’s music and when I heard more than one song from her in the movie, I was definitely sold. It was really nice to finally go and see a movie that I really connected with. I had no idea that the same guy who directed “Thank you for Smoking” Jason Reitman was the director for Juno. I really admire his work. He has a talented way of conveying such realness to the audience. I thought Ellen Page did an extraordinary job of acting in this film and I really like that Michael Cera kid too. I’m sure a lot of people developed an affinity for him after they saw “Superbad”. I was really impressed with the casting in this film.
It was nice to see Jason Bateman stepping outside of his norm and taking on more of a personable type of role, along with Jennifer Garner who in my book, always does a remarkable job. Overall, I give this movie, a-without-a-doubt, two thumbs up! It is not very often that I go out and buy the soundtrack to a movie. I can honestly say that I have only done it a hand full of other times with movies that really hit home with me.
The Juno Movie Soundtrack to me was just one of those absolute must have soundtracks. From my awareness, the movie won an Academy Award for Best Original screenplay along with three Oscar nominations and also won several different film festival awards including the breakthrough screenwriter award for its writer Diablo Cody and the talented Ellen Page was recognized as a breakthrough actress after this being in this movie. Good for her, she definitely deserves it! I’m certainly not surprised with all the success that this movie has had.
Last week, I was over at my cousin’s house and it just so happens that I see a bright orange tic-tac colored vinyl what appeared to look like the same as that of the Juno CD laying on her overhead bedroom bookshelf. I was pretty shocked because I had no idea that they converted Junos Soundtrack over to vinyl. My cousin said that she has been collecting vinyl for quite some time now and really loves the sound quality. How cool is that I thought. That may very well make a good Christmas gift this year. I must say that Juno has opened up my interests in indie and studio films as well as independent films and has given me an eagerness to see more comedy-dramas in general.
